Data Sources & Attribution

We use publicly available, commercially-licensed data sources to ensure reliability and legal compliance.

NASA POWER

License: Public Domain

Source: NASA POWER - Prediction Of Worldwide Energy Resources

NASA POWER provides global climatology data derived from satellite observations and climate models. We use the following parameters:

  • T2M_MAX: Daily maximum temperature at 2 meters
  • T2M_MIN: Daily minimum temperature at 2 meters
  • PRECTOTCORR: Precipitation corrected
  • RH2M: Relative humidity at 2 meters

Attribution: Data provided by the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) POWER Project funded through the NASA Earth Science/Applied Science Program.

Commercial Use: NASA POWER data is in the public domain and may be used for commercial purposes without restriction.

GeoNames

Source: GeoNames Geographical Database

GeoNames provides comprehensive geographical data including city names, coordinates, population, and administrative divisions. We use the cities15000.txt dataset which includes cities with populations over 15,000.

Attribution: City data © GeoNames, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Available at www.geonames.org

Commercial Use: The CC BY 4.0 license permits commercial use with proper attribution.

Data Processing

All data processing is performed locally using deterministic algorithms. We compute monthly statistics from daily NASA POWER data (2001-2020):

  • Temperature highs and lows: mean of daily T2M_MAX and T2M_MIN across 20 years
  • Monthly precipitation: average of yearly monthly totals
  • Rainy days: average count of days with precipitation ≥ 1mm per month
  • Unit conversions (Celsius to Fahrenheit, mm to inches)

Data Refresh Schedule

Climate data is refreshed monthly via automated processes. The refresh includes:

  • Fetching updated climate normals from NASA POWER
  • Processing and computing monthly statistics
  • Regenerating all static pages with current data

Data Accuracy

While we strive for accuracy, climate data represents historical averages and may not reflect current conditions or future weather. We recommend consulting local weather forecasts closer to your travel dates.
